Looking back at historic protest movements, Emily celebrates the journey and connections people made in order to improve people’s rights; not just their own but for future generations. Working with palette knives and brushes, Emily builds up expressive layers of paint in bold colour combinations that create a dynamic surface, to which she applies laser cut collaged elements. These elements and colour choices are informed by her research, most recently into the Suffragette movement and Jarrow crusade. Emily believes that people need to communicate and connect with each other in order to have flourishing communities and by looking back we can value our rights and freedoms.
