I have always been an artist, I always knew I wanted to work creatively and have many happy memories as a child drawing or helping my mother and grandmother with craft projects; lace making, knitting, embroidery, making clothes and patchwork quilting.
It was during my A-Levels my confidence really grew and I thrived in a fantastic art department taking both Ceramics and Photography and immersing myself in Art history books. I then went to Kent Institute of Art to do my Foundation. I studied a BA (hons) degree in 3D Design Ceramics at Loughborough University (2000-2003). During my degree I researched the use of photographic light sensitive emulsions on ceramic surfaces. But I was often to be found in the darkroom and with hindsight should have done a fine art degree instead.
After my degree I felt ceramics was no longer for me in my own art practice and worked mostly using traditional photographic techniques.
Art education and teaching has been a big focus in my Freelance career and at times life has got in the way of my own art practice. I had my son in 2009 and my daughter in 2016 and there are gaps in my work during this time but I never stopped creating and recording my thoughts in my sketchbooks.
In 2019 my husband and I decided we had had enough of living in the south of England and we moved to Scotland. We found our current home in 2021 in Stirlingshire and we are so happy to call Scotland home.
At the beginning of 2022 I decided I had invested so much time in my family and other commitments that it was time for me to focus on my art. Brimming with ideas I was desperate to get back into the studio. It was the very best decision I made and I am so excited to share my journey with you and the work I am making.
